In this guide, we’ll show you how to remove the base from an office chair. This is a common repair that is needed when the base of the chair becomes damaged or worn out.
What you will need
In order to remove the base from your office chair, you will need:
– A Phillips head screwdriver
– A hammer
– A flathead screwdriver
– A socket wrench set
How to remove the base from an office chair
First, use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that are holding the base of the chair to the frame. Next, use the hammer to lightly tap on the flathead screwdriver until it is wedged between the base and the frame. Once you have a good grip, twist the flathead screwdriver until the base pops off. Finally, use the socket wrench set to remove any remaining screws that are holding the base in place.
Step one: unscrew the base
If you need to remove the base from your office chair, follow these steps. With a few simple tools, you’ll have the base removed in no time.
Start by unscrewing the base from the chair. You’ll need a Phillips head screwdriver for this. There are typically four screws that hold the base to the chair. Once you’ve removed the screws, lift the base away from the chair.
Step two: remove the caster wheels
Now that the seat is off, you should be able to see the five caster wheels that are attached to the base. In order to remove the base, you will need to remove these caster wheels.
Start by unscrewing the two screws that are holding each caster wheel in place. You may need a Phillips head screwdriver for this. Once the screws are removed, you should be able to pull the caster wheels off of the base.
With the caster wheels removed, you should now be able to see the four bolts that are attaching the base to the chair.
Step three: take apart the chair back
The back of the chair is usually held on with four screws. Unscrew these and set them aside. You may need a screwdriver or pliers to remove them. With the back of the chair removed, you should now have access to the base of the chair.
Step four: remove the seat
If your chair has a seat cushion, it will be attached to the chair in one of two ways: with screws, or by clipping into place. To remove a seat cushion that is attached with screws, simply unscrew the screws and lift the cushion off. If your seat cushion is attached by clips, look for a tab or lever underneath the front edge of the seat. Pressing down on this tab or lever will release the seat from its clips. Once you have removed the seat, you should be able to see the bolts that attach the base of the chair to the chair frame.
Step five: put it all back together
Now that you have the base removed from your office chair, it’s time to put it all back together! Follow these steps to reassemble your chair:
1. Screw the base back onto the chair using the screws that you removed in Step Four.
2. Reconnect the gas lift to the base. Make sure that the gas lift is firmly attached to the base before moving on to the next step.
3. Attach the casters to the base. Once again, make sure that each caster is firmly attached before moving on.
4. Your chair is now ready to be used!
